What to do if your Samsung Galaxy device is not charging
If your Galaxy phone does not charge or charges more slowly than usual, the issue may be related to the battery, charging cable, power adapter, wireless charger, charging port, moisture detection, or device temperature. Review the guidance below to identify the cause and restore normal charging.
Check the estimated charging time
You can view the estimated remaining time until the battery is fully charged.
Note:
- The estimated charging time may vary depending on device condition and charging environment.
- The charging time may not appear if the device temperature is too high or too low.
What to check when charging is slow or not working
Stop using the phone during charging
Using high performance apps such as games, video streaming, or browsing while charging can increase device temperature and slow down charging.
Check fast charging settings
If your device supports fast charging, AFC (Adaptive Fast Charging) is recommended. If your device is charging slowly, check that Fast charging is enabled on your device.
Note:
- Fast charging is not supported when using a normal charger.
- For wireless fast charging, ensure the charger supports fast charging.
Charge your device at a proper temperature
Charging may be limited if the device or surrounding environment is too hot or too cold. It is recommended to charge the device at room temperature for stable charging.
Use Samsung approved chargers and cables
Low quality or non-approved chargers and cables may cause slow charging or intermittent disconnection. Use Samsung approved chargers or certified accessories for stable charging.
Check the charging port and cable condition
If dust or debris is stuck in the charging port or cable connector, charging may be blocked for safety. Remove debris using a soft brush.
When using wireless charging, make sure there are no foreign objects between the device and the charging pad, as it may slow down charging.
Damaged or corroded ports or cables may cause slow charging or heat generation. Long-used cables should be checked or replaced if necessary.
Reboot your device
If your phone still has power remaining, try a soft reboot. This will allow the device to reset its temporary memory and will help you determine if the problem is software related. To perform the reboot press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys until the device restarts.
Note: The key combinations may differ slightly depending on the model of your device.
Run a test using Samsung Members
You can use Samsung Members to run a battery and charging diagnosis. This helps identify whether the issue is related to the cable, wireless charging, or battery condition. Follow the steps below.
Step 1. Tap the Members app.
Step 2. Select Support.
Step 3. Tap Get started to run Phone diagnostics.
Step 4. Tap Battery status, Cable charging, or Wireless charging to start checking.
Step 5. Review the results and follow any on-screen guidance if an issue is detected.
You can also tap the shortcut below to open the Phone diagnostics page directly.
Note:
- Self-diagnosis is available only on Galaxy devices with the Samsung Members app installed.
- If the connection is unstable, try again using the Samsung Internet app.
- Running the diagnosis again after restarting the device may also help resolve temporary issues.
- Menu names, paths, and screen layouts may vary depending on your device model, software, or app version.
